Barbara has been in the health, fitness and wellness field for over 35 years starting as a Licensed Massage Therapist. She soon realized corrective movement was a missing component in structural health. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science as well as certifications in personal and group fitness training. Still noticing a gap between standard fitness and the benefits of bodywork she discovered Pilates movement to be the missing link. Barbara began studying Pilates in 1999 and earned comprehensive Pilates certifications from Polestar Pilates Education and Powerhouse Pilates.
From 2004-2014 she was Adjunct Faculty at the University of West Florida, in Pensacola, FL. She created the curriculum for the three credit elective courses, Pilates I and Pilates II. She also authored the textbook, Pilates Primer: Foundations in Movement. From 2002-2018 she created and filmed a TV show with UWF-TV Pilates Core Training. Many of the episodes can still be seen on her YouTube Channel.
She co-owned Pilates Training Institute, Inc., a Pilates Teacher School from 2005-2007, then created her own school, Barbara Bruni's Pilates and Beyond, Inc. in 2007. She created the curriculum and manuals for both Mat and Comprehensive courses. She has furthered her movement therapy education by taking continuing education courses with some of her favorite teachers including Brent Anderson, Rebecca Leone and Madeline Black. Some of these courses include:
Joint Replacement of the Lower Extremity
Pilates for Spine Surgeries and Fusions
Pilates for Rheumatology
Pilates for Chronic Pain
Philosophy of Subtle Energy and Fascia with Carol Davis
Geriatrics, Osteoporosis and Age-Related Dysfunction
Pilates for Complex Spine Pathologies
Rotational Sports
Advanced Gait
The Immune System
The Mind-Body Connection
Training the Fascial System
Additionally, Barbara added the GYROTONIC Expansion System Level 1 to her repertoire of physical training in 2006, GYROKENISIS in 2008 and GYROTONIC Level 2 in 2013. She maintains her continuing education and licensure biannually.
She realized people had substantial fascial restrictions that impeded their movement and caused pain which made exercise difficult. She discovered Myofascial Release and realized the profound results for herself and others. She began studying Myofascial Release with John Barnes in 2010. She is now an expert level therapist.
She added the Rolf Method of Structural Integration in 2013 which helped her to gain an even deeper understanding of the complex matrix of the body?s relationship of connective tissue and movement.
Barbara's focus is on corrective and restorative movement as well as freedom from restrictions caused by injuries, stress and trauma.
Julie joined Pilates Core Training & Myofascial Release Center (PCT) as a client of Barbara Bruni's in 2014 for chronic pain and has been receiving bi-weekly John Barnes Myofascial Release (MFR) treatments with Barbara ever since. She claims JFB MFR Therapy, along with Pilates has infinitely changed her life. The PCT & Myofascial Release Center offers restorative bodywork and Pilates to aid clients in functional movement. In January 2015, she joined the PCT team as the office manager. After witnessing first-hand lives being transformed with JFB MFR therapy, she enrolled and completed massage therapy school in January 2018 earning her licensure in March 2019. She is certified in Swedish, however, her practice is nearly 100% John Barnes Myofascial Release based. Most of her massage training has been with John and his team of therapists. Julie received her Pediatric Massage certification (CPMT) through the Liddle Kidz foundation with Tina Allen and is also trained in manual cupping, which she incorporates into sessions when beneficial. To continue to facilitate healing in her clients after the release of their myofascial restrictions, she has her Pilates Mat certification and is working toward her Comprehensive Pilates certification. Julie also assists Barbara in her Restorative classes based on Madeline Black's movement method and has taken several courses with Madeline Black. Julie believes; releasing, realigning, and strengthening the body go hand in hand. Working with children has always been a passion for Julie. She feels it is a special privilege to help shape young minds and bodies. Julie worked as a mentor in local elementary schools and in the community for over 25 years. While she is 100% dedicated to her adult clients, Julie's aspiration is to bring awareness to the pediatric community of the benefits of JFB MFR therapy and Pilates. She knows unwinding newborn babies gives these children a head start dealing with and ridding their bodies of birthing trauma. Her overall objective for all her clients is to aid them in achieving healthy alignment and give them the tools they need to maintain strong bodies with Pilates. She's excited to continue to hone her skills through JFB MFR seminars and improve her skills training with her mentor Barbara Bruni.
